Mrs. Jessica McLenna
Welcome future first-graders and parents! I am very excited to meet you and to be your first-grade teacher! This will be my eighth year teaching and I have taught first grade, second grade, and fifth grade too.
My teaching style is very hands-on/ minds-on and because of this, I hold very high expectations for my students. I believe that students should be engaged and excited to be in the classroom and I believe it is my job and passion to create an environment where students are free to experiment, explore, and experience new things. My students and I collaborate and work together to create a classroom where everyone’s voice is heard and everyone feels valued and respected. I believe that every person can teach us something, and as such, I encourage parents to participate and volunteer in our classroom. If you have any interest in volunteering in our classroom I encourage you to contact me or sign up on the volunteer page.
Communication is very important to me and this year I am hoping to utilize our communication folders as our link for home and school. These folders are blue and will hold important papers, student work, and progress reports. As a first grade team, we have also put together Home Learning Folders with important login information, schedules, and tools to help with virtual learning. These folders will be sent home along with Chromebooks and will be kept at home. In addition to folders, I utilize our school website too and you are able to view our class page for additional resources. I also encourage you to sign up for our Class Dojo App where you choose to sign up with either email or cell phone text messages. This tool allows me to quickly send reminders or notes to all parents. It is a safe place to post pictures of classroom activities too since only parents will have access. If we move to virtual learning, it already has student portfolios set up for posting pictures of work. Let me know if you need any help getting set up! Have a great rest of your break and see you in September!
