Mr. Mark Hopkins
Work hard every day...every day, work hard.
Dear Purple Sage Parents,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to share a few of my goals and expectations for Purple Sage Elementary.
I am a native of Boise and currently live in Meridian. I graduated from Capital High School, attended the University of Idaho where I majored in Earth Science Education and I then went on to earn my MA in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. I also proudly served in the Idaho Army National Guard for 8 years where I was an Apache helicopter crew-chief.
The majority of my career was spent at St. Mark’s School (PreK-8) in Boise where I taught middle school math and science for 9 years, was vice principal for 2 years and was the principal for 3 years. I look forward to bringing my experiences to Purple Sage and to continuing my adventure in education.
I am happily married and I have two awesome children, a son who is 14 and entering the 9th grade and a daughter who is 12 and entering the 7th grade. I love all things outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, I enjoy working on vehicles and spending time with my family in any capacity.
I believe that all children can be successful once we, as adults, help them to define success for themselves. I believe that nothing can take the place of hard work and I strongly desire that every student will understand and take ownership of this by the time they graduate from 5th grade. Grit and determination are also skills that our staff will instill and sharpen within your children and when they leave us, they will stand out. I believe that students should be respectful of each other and of the adults in the building and that is something that we will be constantly working on.
I will continue to observe and listen and I am always open to a conversation or to hear your concerns and ideas. Feel free to call, email or drop b
Lastly, please know that it is vital that each of our students, parents and staff members feel that Purple Sage is their home. This means that they feel safe and cared for here and that they are excited to come to school every day. If this is not your reality, please let me know how I can help.
Please join me in enthusiastically opening this year with all eyes on our students and our energies focused on their success!
Sincerely,
Mark Hopkins
